Trust in the Lord

Stake Fast

Dear Brothers and Sisters of the Highland Utah East Stake,

We would like to invite all to join in a stake fast on November 7, 2021 and to continue in prayer thru our March 2022 stake conference that the members of our stake, communities and family will respond to promptings to:

1. “Trust in the Lord” and

2. Invite others to come unto Christ and make and keep covenants with God.

The focus of the fast resides in our stake theme and the teachings from President Nelson and Sister Bonnie H. Cordon, President of the General Young Women’s Presidency.

Our 2022 Stake Theme will be the same as the 2022 Youth Theme.  It is Proverbs 3:5,6:

“Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.”

President Nelson taught us that:

“Anytime we do anything that helps anyone … make and keep their covenants with God, we are helping to gather Israel.”

In the October 2021 general conference, Sister Cordon suggested how we can execute President Nelson’s teaching of helping others make and keep their covenants:

“Our eternal purpose is to come unto Christ and actively join Him in His great work. It is as simple as doing what President Nelson taught.

…Come unto Christ. Come now, but don’t come alone! The gospel of Jesus Christ is not just nice; it is essential for all. … Remember, the best way for you to improve the world is to prepare the world for Christ by inviting all to follow Him.”

As Christ announced that He must return to the Father, “he cast his eyes round about again.” He asked: “Have ye any that are sick among you? Bring them hither. Have ye any that are lame, or blind, … deaf, or that are afflicted in any manner? Bring them hither and I will heal them. ”Having great compassion, He set no limits and called for all “that are afflicted in any manner.” … He knows our suffering as well and calls, Bring forth the anxious and depressed, the weary, the prideful and misunderstood, the lonely, or those who “are afflicted in any manner.”

And all “did go forth … and he did heal them every one.”

Every time I read this, I ask myself: Who will I bring to Christ? Who will you bring? Can we look round about again, as Jesus did, to make sure no one is missed, and everyone is invited to come to know Him?

The individual(s) you invite might be yourself or a sibling, child, parent, neighbor, associate, or friend – anyone who needs to take the ‘next step’ forward. It might be a member, nonmember, former member, or ancestor or someone who needs to draw closer to the Savior in their life. Pray to be bold in extending your invitation and loving and respectful before, during and after the invitation regardless of the response.  You will likely want to coordinate intra-ward and neighborhood invitations with members of the ward council.

Sister Cordon reinforced that as we trust in the Lord and come unto Him and “seek to draw closer to the Savior through faith, cherished repentance, and keeping the commandments” and “bind ourselves to Him through covenants and ordinances, our lives are filled with confidence, protection, and deep and lasting joy. We testify of this truth.
