Our Greatest Treasure

By Daren Gates, Canyon View Ward

It seems that a lot of our time and energy today is spent trying to accumulate wealth, gather assets and improve the quality of our life. While this isn’t bad, I feel we are sometimes missing the mark as to what holds true value. President Hinckley said, “I urge our people everywhere, with all of the persuasiveness of which I am capable, to live worthy to hold a temple recommend, to secure one and regard it as a precious asset, and to make a greater effort to go to the House of the Lord and partake of the spirit and the blessings to be had therein.”

Any challenge we are facing or blessing we are seeking can be made better through faithful Temple attendance. President Hinckley further stated “If you are able, go to the temple on a regular basis. You will be better fathers and husbands, better wives and mothers. I know your lives are busy. I know you have much to do. But, I make you a promise that if you will go to the house of the Lord, you will be blessed; life will be better for you.”

Let’s make 2026 our best temple year ever in the Highland Utah East Stake. If you don’t have a current Temple recommend, take the necessary steps to get one. If there is an ordinance you haven’t done in a while, do it. Maybe it’s time to go to a Temple you have never been to before. Do more ordinances in one month than you have ever done before. Take family names to the Temple, if you have never done that before. Put the Lord on notice and qualify yourself for the blessings you are seeking.
