Welfare & Self-Reliance: Key Resources & Contacts
Welfare and Self-Reliance Resource Training
The Church offers a comprehensive array of welfare, employment and self-reliance services and resources. The trainings listed below will provide you an overview or refresher of available resources. New leaders or those desiring a refresher should plan to participate in one of these four training dates. Counselors would also be welcome to participate. For help in accessing these resources, you can also reach out to Brother Doug Bassett (High Council) or Jesse and Ann Adamson – Stake Welfare and Self-Reliance Specialists.
Introducing the "988" Suicide & Crisis Lifeline
Starting July 16, 2022, individuals experiencing a mental health crisis can call (or chat/text) 988, a federally mandated, universal crisis number. This number replaces the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline (1-800) number.

By dialing 988, individuals will be connected to a behavioral health crisis worker who is trained to help identify strategies and immediate solutions to mental health concerns. You can learn more about the 988 crisis line here.
Also, The Church has resources to help those facing challenges. The Facing Challenges: A Self-Help Guide, an individual can identify things they are struggling with and then choose coping strategies to help them. The Discussion Guide: How Can I Minister to Others During a Crisis can help leaders, ministers, parents, friends, or siblings to have a conversation and learn about ways they can minister to others during difficult times.
